Last weekend ...

I had the chance to see blues legend B.B. King at the House of Blues on Sunday. Although I'm not much of a blues fan, the music was brilliant, and the King was in good voice and great spirits. And what a storyteller! Suffice it to say many a mention was made to a "Mr. Viagra" in his tales.

Anyhoo, enjoy a taste of the show with this raw video I took of the song "I Need You So."

Day Tripper: Best events for Thursday, June 4

It's hard to believe that the guys in Bowling for Soup have been together for 15 years. Probably because they still get a kick out of making poop jokes. But that doesn't take away from their musical output, which has caught the ears of pop-punk fans (some of them Grammy voters) all around the world. They'll play three anniversary shows this weekend, including this one in Denton tonight. With Valve and the Leftovers. 7 p.m. Dan's Silverleaf, 109 Industrial St. in Denton. bowlingforsoup.com.

Baltimore group Animal Collective doesn't rest on its ability to create sublime melodies. It takes a unique approach to delivering them, and that's what makes it one of the more interesting musical acts in the biz today. With opening act Black Dice. 8 p.m. House of Blues, 2200 N. Lamar St. Sold out. 1-800-745-3000 or ticketmaster.com.

Sean Kirkpatrick was smart to get a full band together to flesh out his dark, complex piano pop songs. Check out Nervous Curtains, and you'll get a good idea of what to expect from the group's forthcoming album. With RTB2, Child Bite and Deep Snapper. 8 p.m. The Lounge on Elm St., 2810 Elm St. $5. myspace.com/theloungeonelmst.

Comic Robert Schimmel is also a cancer survivor, and he turned that experience into a book called Cancer on $5 a Day* (*chemo not included). His past cable comedy specials are brutally funny, especially when his role as a father clashes with his naughtier tendencies. 8 p.m. (also various times through Sunday). Addison Improv, 4980 Belt Line Road, Suite 250. $17 and $20. 972-404-8501 or improv.com.

Champagne Thursday at the Hotel Capri. Complimentary champagne for ladies until midnight. Half-price selected bottles. $5 you-call-its. Doors open at 6 p.m. 2020 Greenville Ave. No cover. 214-370-9944. thehotelcapri.com.

Sex Education at Purgatory. No cover for girls dressed as naughty schoolgirls or teachers until 11 p.m. Hex, D-Train and ATG spin. Doors open at 10 p.m. 2208 Main St. $10 for guys, $5 for girls. 972-567-3068. accessdallas.com.
