Our second-annual local-music awards show kicked off June 5 at the Granada Theater. Check out a slideshow of the performances, award winners and other characters that made for a memorable night!
The new station plans to use their full-market, non-commercial license to blend local programming and coverage (in-studio performances, interviews, concert calendars, etc.) with an "Adult Album Alternative" playlist, a relatively broad format that includes everything from alt country and folk to world music and indie rock.
[Insert lengthy, profanity-laced rant about how commercial radio is terrible here.]
Whew! Glad I got that off my chest. Now let's celebrate KERA's announcement, shall we? Dig the video below, with SPEAKERS TURNED UP TO 11!
Old 97's frontman Rhett Miller releases his latest solo album today, and the cover photo was taken by Quick's go-to-photo-guy, the great Jason Janik. We asked Jason to give us some background on the shoot. Here's what he had to say:
Working with Rhett was a blast. Well, really, I got to work with Rhett, Salim Nourallah and John Dufilho on this project. All three guys were a dream come true. I think one reason this album is getting so much critical acclaim (four stars from Rolling Stone?!? Nobody from Dallas ever gets four stars from them!) is thanks to this trifecta of musical talent. It's like a perfect storm of musical genius!
Getting to do all the album artwork was great. Most indie and major label bands are busy enough that you only get a day to do photos. Luckily, Salim suggested that I come in as much as I want and just hang out, taking pictures whenever and wherever I wanted. He wanted a very "real" look for the photos. I knew that I had to balance this with what Rhett's label wanted and what the fans expected, and I think I accomplished my goal.
