Pitchfork review of 'Rhett Miller'

rhett album.JPGWhile I'm not always in the habit of reporting what everyone outside of Dallas thinks about its music, I thought Pitchfork's review of Rhett Miller's new solo album was interesting.

One key excerpt:

"Like much of Rhett Miller, and unlike much oft-unctuous power pop, it's music seemingly made to softly impress rather than outright inspire. Maybe that's the Texan in Miller at work, making the case that, whenever in doubt, it's best to sacrifice flash and err on the side of modesty. The disc's tasteful to a fault, but at least you can't fault his good taste."

Mimi's new song hits radio

Hear "Obsessed" here. The song's target is obviously Slim Shady. Does this have anything to do with anything in Dallas? No. But I just wanted to post it because the new promo pic/single cover is a HOT MESS.

Get Sober Thursday at the Cavern

soberflyer-6-18.jpg

Our friend Sober will preside over the official Santigold afterparty on Thursday at the Cavern, with special appearances by Santigold's opening act, Amanda Blank, as well as Spankrock DJs Delvin and Darko. Perhaps the Cavern is where the Santigold and St. Vincent crowds will come together after their main events. ... And why are those two events on the same night? Curse the stars!

UPDATE: I also hear through the grapevine that Santigold and her other opening act, Trouble Andrew, might be stopping by Joyce/Bungalow after the show. We'll see,
