... that the guy who sings the True Blood opening song, Jace Everett, was raised in Fort Worth? Me neither. Some of his other stuff sounds like the Toadies would if they decided to go country (and I really hope they don't).
My headphones have been busy blasting three new mixes made available by local folks. Here they is; get 'em!
DJ Select, "Swag Surfin"
(Download here)
For those of you who are a bit behind on the latest wave of hit Dallas hip-hop songs, consider this mix your primer. We've got "Nature Walk," "Ricky Bobby" and many more. Thanks, Sa-sa-sa-select.
(See him spin Friday night at Zubar with A.One, Schwa, Keith P, Prince Will and more.)
DJ El Macho, "From Robot to Human"
(Download here)
The Fever! DJ shows his technophile side on this diverse mix that includes tracks from Snow Patrol, Blaqk Audio and the Killers. Your treadmill's calling ...
Gorilla Vs. Bear, "Summer Mix"
(Download here)
Dallas blogger Chris Cantalini proves he's got his finger on the pulse with this lazy, hazy collection of his favorite current summer jams. I enjoy the Bee Gees cover.
If there are any other good mixes floating around, let me know.

Ben: My inside sources at computer Web sites just gave me the bad news that people in Hollywood who aren't creative enough to come up with original ideas are remaking that old classic Footloose. Chase Crawford of Dallas, apparently the current leading tail-magnet of the free world, will take on Kevin Bacon's role as the guy who loves to dance his frustration away in a warehouse. I feel sorry for the actor who gets stuck in the shadow of John Lithgow. He may have never been better.
Skin: I suppose that's better than remaking that movie where Kevin Bacon was a bike messenger. I am impressed that he's done more than anybody else with the last name of Bacon since Sir Francis Bacon. Little-known fact, SFB developed the Baconian Method while dancing away his frustrations in a warehouse. Whatever happened to the uniquely gangly Lori Singer? She was furious that Laura Dern got so popular. I'm working on a coffee-table book about long-limbed skinny white chicks from the '80s. I'm thinking of calling it Fake Cans Changed the Game.
Ben: I'm working on a book that will be way more popular than yours called Chicks With Fake Cans Who Won't Be in Skin's Terrible Book. You're right though, they have changed everything ... and for the better. Personally, I don't have a problem with triple-fake plastic rack. I prefer the real deal, but I greatly appreciate the effort and hustle of surgical-boom front chest.
Skin: I draw the line at lap dances from human mannequins. Unless it's Kim Cattrall. And then I wanna re-create that memorable scene from Porky's. You know the one. At least I hope you do, cuz I don't remember anything from Porky's. In an unrelated note, I grew up thinking that chicks loved the smell of locker rooms. I can't remember where I got that notion. Well, I'm off to download the late '80s catalog of the great Starship, and try to figure out the difference between Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman. Nothing's gonna stop us now, Ben. Nothing at all.
