So, above you will find the last of our recap videos from June 5's QBT show at the Granada. Included are a few choice moments of the headlining set by Play-N-Skillz. The guys are looking sharp, no?



Speaking of the Granada, the reviews of St. Vincent's packed hometown show last night are in, and they're all glowing. I was there, but I won't delve too deeply into Annie Clark's rapturous crooning and shredding, or her set designer's simple use of stretched fabric backdrops and lighting magic to create an on-stage wonder world.


What stuck out most to me last night were the differences between the studio recordings and the live versions of songs from both Marry Me and Actor . It's hard to peg. The arrangements were mostly the same (we had flute, sax, the works from her band), but the approach to playing can only be described using a word I generally hate: organic.


I didn't get the sense that Annie and her band were forcing themselves to sound exactly like the studio recordings. They took their time, let things build, didn't try too hard. I found myself in a trance listening to the much-heavier-live versions of "Laughing With a Mouth of Blood" and the evening's closer "Your Lips Are Red." Maybe it's the way they were played, or maybe my undeniable crush on St. Vincent was just clouding my brain.
