Quick's Summer Cocktail: Tai one on

Quick is spotlighting terrific summer cocktails over the next few weeks, and we want you to weigh in on your favorites. Check back for the next installment on Monday.

Mai Tai

Where to get it: Trader Vic's, 5330 E. Mockingbird Lane.

Why it's fabulous: OK, there's nothing new about this tropical bev, but there's a reason it's been a popular cocktail since its creation in the '40s -- it's sweet and fruity heaven in a glass! And if you're going to savor one, you'd best do it at one of the places that claims to have concocted it -- Trader Vic's. Of course, the island-themed resto-bar has the drink perfected, and the lime and orange flavors make the Jamaican rum go down like a spoonful of sugar. If this drink doesn't scream summer and transport you to a white-sand beach (in your head), I don't know what does ...

Tell us ... Where do you go to get a summery cocktail that tastes like a vacation in the tropics?

It may not be a vacation in the tropics, but Old Monk's "Lemonberry" is my favorite summer drink in Dallas. It's just cranberry vodka and lemonade, but it tastes like drinking lemonade on your grandma's front porch. Well, that is if your grandma put vodka in homemade pink lemonade... Delicious!

(And I think they serve it at Idle Rich, too)

I agree with ye, Katie -- the Lemonberry is one of my faves at the Monk. As is the Paris, Texas, a fruity treat that's actually no longer on the menu. A sweet, secret delight!
