Much curiosity surrounds Heath Ledger's final movie, which is why Imaginarium seems a shoo-in to lead the Oct. 16 box office. But is it a good movie?
Terry Gilliam directs the flick, which looks more loopy than the Alice in Wonderland trailer that's floating around the Interwebs. With its swirling landscapes, fantastical imagery and wondrously imaginative settings, the special effects and CGI on this film must've run into the tens of millions of dollars. Apart from the gasp-inducing visuals and peeks into Ledger's performance, it's really hard to tell what this movie is about. Alas, it may not even matter to most viewers. But if this film is to sustain some success, the filmmakers should hope it does ...
Release date: Oct. 16
Chance of box office success: It'll probably open big, what with many people wanting to see Ledger's final performance. Positive or negative word of mouth will either buoy it or bury it in the following weeks.
Should you see it?: Of course, to satisfy your curiosity about Ledger's last film.
Say it ain't so! The word got out after a press release from AEG this morning included a line about Wednesday's Cool Kids/Clipse show at the Granada being called off. Well, there's no official verdict from the Granada yet -- venue reps tell us they're in talks with show organizers at the moment, but can't explain the situation any further. We'll get more info if the cancellation is finalized (as well as info about refunds.) But until then, let's all hold out hope for a last-minute miracle ...
UPDATE: No word yet from the Granada, but Gorilla vs. Bear (who's listed as the show's presenter) tweets, "Dallas: Clipse/Cool Kids show at Granada has been CANCELED. Have no idea why, as we haven't been given any reason, official or otherwise."
UPDATE #2: Granada confirms in a tweet: "OK...it is finally official. Clipse & The Cool Kids have cancelled their show. Refunds on the way... So sorry guys, we're disappointed too!"
UPDATE #3: Word from a PR source is that Cool Kids are trying to resked show for next month. We shall see ...
(Hey, if the Cool Kids can't make it, why not let this band play? I like it better live, anyway.)
OK, that headline might have been a tad misleading. You're not going to be eating corporate-approved Southern dishes prepared by dirty band boys. House of Blues will begin turning over its restaurant stage, known as the Voodoo Lounge Stage, to local and regional up-and-comers on a weekly basis. The "Tomorrow's Headliners Concert Series" kicks off Wednesday with a performance by the Josh Weathers Band (above). Cover's $5. More deets from the press release (and a schedule) after the jump.
