It's not every day you find a fantastic happy hour at a burger joint, but Jakes in Uptown has an incredible one jam-packed with specials. Hold on to yer hats. Every weekday from 4 to 7 p.m., guests can enjoy: $2 cosmos, appletinis and domestic bottles; $3 you-call-it cocktails, schooners and you-call-it appetizers (including fried pickle chips and stuffed jalapenos), and $3 frozen margs all day long. Whew! Sound too good to be true? I guess you'll have to mosey up McKinney to see if it's for real ...
Had a great time last night sitting in with Reid Robinson and Sista Whitenoise during their 'Sonic Assembly Power Hour' on KNON-FM 89.3. They took time out from their quarterly pledge drive to let me play some songs I like (you can make pledges to the station and the show in particular here). You'll find my playlist after the jump.
But before that, let me pull out the soapbox for a sec. If you haven't listened to KNON before, do. It's the closest thing to free-form radio that exists in Dallas. Tune in any given night, and you're likely to hear deep blues, Latin, hip-hop and R&B cuts. And Sonic Assembly's playing loads of local artists of all genres during its weekly Tuesday late-night slots. So, listen and learn.
