Ever had happy hour in the sky? Well, now's your chance. Five Sixty by Wolfgang Puck just launched its own happy hour, and it's perfect for having a raise-your-pinkie kind of time after work.
Monday through Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., the restaurant offers a rotating menu of "tiny temptations" such as kobe beef sliders and tempura spicy tuna sandwiches. In addition to the five daily small plates, there'll also be five offerings of beer, wine and cocktails, with food and bevs priced at $5.60 each -- get it? Then get up there ...

I attended the open-to-the-public launch party at Kush (above), the new lounge and hookah bar on Lower Greenville. Since there were free glasses of champagne and vodka cocktails being served, the crowd was pretty good -- all the hookah tables outside were taken. Inside, the vibe was ... eh, kinda nondescript. There were quite a few older folks and suburban-looking adults -- totally not the typical Greenville crowd. But no one really moved or mingled, and no one certainly danced, until the belly dancers shimmied in the middle of the bar, that is.
Tahiti (rapping for Texas) has the early lead in our fifth-annual Texas-OU hip-hop clash, but we have a long way to go till game day. Go right here to see Pikahsso and Tahiti duke it out for the title. Watch the video, download the track (produced by young whiz kid VohnBeatz), leave your comments and vote for a winner.
Judging by the capacity crowd at last Friday's Wilco show (recap here), one wonders if the band could've filled up a larger venue (AAC?). Maybe, maybe not. But I'm glad they were at the Palladium. Good views for everybody, excellent sound and a friendly crowd of fanatics.
Probably the best live show I've seen all year. And, since one of our readers was kind enough to share a link to his recording of the show in an earlier comment, I thought I'd play a little bit of what he captured for you.
This was one of the more memorable moments of the night, when Jeff Tweedy turned the mic toward the crowd and let them sing most of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot fave "Jesus, Etc." They mostly did him proud, only flubbing a few lines. Put on your headphones, turn up the volume and enjoy:

Now, I wasn't at the U2 show on Monday at Cowboys Stadium. But I bet there were more than a few fans there who would have sacrificed "the Claw" and the cool video effects for a scaled-down, better sounding show like the Vertigo-supporting AAC concert in 2005. Going smaller isn't always a bad thing. Wilco knows that.
U is for Upside Down. There are several wild rides at the State Fair of Texas designed to flip, twist, shake and spin you. Who else would you trust to fling you several stories up in the air and flip you upside down? I think you are safe in the hands of the faithful fair carnie.
