Were you at Victory Park last night? Do you know who was? About a bazillion screaming Texas and OU fans were, and it was a pretty cool evening. The weather was just right and the music was jumping - thanks to a musical duel by Erykah Badu and the Cannabinoids vs. Shiny Toy Guns.
The event was hosted by Ali Dudek and Gordon Keith. If these two were ever in a duel, my money would be on Ali for the win. Sorry, Gordo.
DJ Sober played some absolutely amazing tunes throughout the evening. The energetic crowd was moving and shaking to everything he could throw at them. A highlight was the Chub Rock single he mixed in between some classic Michael Jackson tunes. How could you not love DJ Sober? Even when he's sporting an old school sea captain's mustache, he still rocks.
David "Soulbot" Jasso dances for the crowd as they wait for the main event - a showdown between Erykah Badu and Shiny Toy Guns.
Please... you know Erykah Badu can rock the house! Was this even a competition? This Texas soul sister was having a lot of fun on stage as she went toe to toe with her Oklahoma rivals.
Wow! This thing was actually going to be tougher than I thought. Shiny Toy Guns won the first of three rounds and had Erykah's crew looking a little worried. Sounding a bit like Berlin and Duran Duran's love child, this Oklahoma band was bringing the sexy back, and then some.
Luckily, Erykah and the Cannabinoids came back with a vengence. They delivered sonic perfection and narrowly nabbed the final two rounds. I know you were nervous... I was, too. I never lost faith in our hometown heroes, though.
X is for X-TREME, one of the state fair midway rides guaranteed to give you a thrill. If you like being swung from side to side like a grandfather clock pendulum, while being spun like a top, you'll be a fan of this vomit-inducing attraction.
Side note: Did you know that the State Fair of Texas doesn't have any x-ray machines or xylophones? Thank goodness for the X-TREME ride, otherwise our alphabet photo essay may have come to a screeching halt!
Did you see any other X's at the fair this year? Post your favorite state fair X in the comment section. What's that? The only one you could find was the X-TREME ride? I knew I wasn't missing anything else X-related.
