Day Tripper: Best events for the weekend

FRIDAY

Playing equal parts Texas country and melodic pop-rock, the Denton-based Eli Young Band found a national fan following with its 2005 CD Level and its Jayhawks-esque single "When It Rains." Expect a healthy crowd at this show, thanks to exposure on CMT and at large events such as the Austin City Limits Music Festival. 8 p.m. Palladium Ballroom, 1135 S. Lamar St. $22. ticketmaster.com.

Ryan Bingham's raspy, aged voice isn't what you'd expect from a 25-year-old, but it has a familiarity that makes his Texas-tinged country all the more appealing. Try out the joyful "Country Roads" from his latest album Roadhouse Sun, or his earlier rollicking hit "Bread and Water." Bingham's with Telegraph Canyon and the Orbans, so it's a solid Southern-flavored lineup. 8:30 p.m. House of Blues, 2200 N. Lamar St. $15-$25. ticketmaster.com.

The '80s classic Back to the Future is the midnight movie at the Inwood Theatre, 5458 W. Lovers Lane. $10. 214-764-9106. www.landmarktheatres.com.
