Setlist: Avett Brothers at the Granada

avett.jpg

I try not to use "amazing" liberally. I didn't major in theater. But it's the first word that comes to mind when I think of the show I saw last night at the Granada. North Carolina's the Avett Brothers played to a full house (and there's nothing like a packed Granada, right?) of fans who sang along all night and clap-stomped for an encore with enthusiasm you seldom see in this town.

The two hairy brothers that front the group were all over the place, taking turns on drums and vocals while also handling the bulk of the guitar work. And of course, Scott Avett (whom I affectionately dubbed "Teen Wolf" last night) plays the [expletive] out of his banjo. The other two players were equally arresting. Bob Crawford did something I'd call "bass jumping" during the faster tunes, bouncing up and down as he minded the groove on his standup. And Joe Kwon's cello lent that extra bit of beauty to the songs on which he played.

Can't keep blabbering -- deadlines. But I'll leave you with last night's setlist and the strong suggestion to drop everything and see them Avetts next time you get the chance.
